Something I have to say is, WOW!

I have a website regarding surgical technicians and from reading this article, you have gone above and beyond in all categories in gaining your Bachelor's degree, becoming certified and all of the skills/knowledge that you have from the classes you took and studying you have done.

Like Rich said, if you are looking for a higher salary then I would definitely recommend moving to a city like New York or San Diego. I live in San Diego and the research I have gathered is that California is home to the highest paid surgical technicians. Not too bad for moderate weather and plenty of things to do. I realize it is a lot different than Austin, but I think it's worth a shot.

I enjoyed your article and the truths about memorization and benefits. However, your statement about salary is inaccurate as far as the Northeast goes. In the New York area, and surrounding suburbs, the average starting salary for a certified surgical tech is about $20-24 per hour. Factor in a few calls a month and your salary will easily increase to $55K. I currently work part time at a very small community hospital that recognizes certification and experience and the pay rate is $28 per hour. Even the laziest techs at my hospital bank $60-$70K a year.
Anyway, I am sure where you live is beautiful, but if you want to make a nice chunk of change, then move up to NY or perhaps do a traveling job for a few weeks to test the waters.
